Characteristics of lepidolite

Origins of this natural stone

First named Lilianthite by the geologist Von Neuhaus, it was much later that lepidolite was renamed as we know it. That first designation sadly did not find consensus within the geological community, which then decided to give it the name it bears today. This name comes from the Greek lepidos, commonly translated as scale, in reference to the distinctive appearance of the stone in its rough form.

Composition of lepidolite

The pronounced presence of lithium in the chemical formula of these natural stones makes them prized materials in electrochemistry. Lepidolite contains many other trace elements such as aluminium, silicon, and manganese. It is the presence of the latter that gives the stone its pale purplish hue and its various reflections. Lepidolite is, moreover, often confused with muscovite, which belongs to the same mica family. More rarely, it displays the peculiarity of an off-white fluorescence, more or less yellow, due to its moderate ultraviolet radiation. 

The abundance of trace elements in its chemical composition makes this mica an extremely rich mineral in terms of benefits for the body and the mental plane.
